IPCEI on Microelectronics and Communication Technologies: an opportunity for the semiconductor ecosystem

The new IPCEI AST (Advanced Semiconductor Technologies) call for projects represents a major opportunity for stakeholders in the integrated circuit ecosystem targeted by the ASTEERICS project.

The IPCEI AST serves primarily as a lever to structure the European semiconductor industry. Selected projects must be built upon a framework of cooperation among industrial players, SMEs, start-ups, and research organizations across Europe.

This collaborative approach aligns with ASTEERICS’ ambition to foster synergies between academic research and industry, thereby accelerating the emergence of disruptive technologies.

A strategic call for projects under the France 2030 plan
Launched by the French government as part of the France 2030 plan, the IPCEI AST aims to boost Europe’s competitiveness in the global digital economy by supporting research, innovation, and first industrial deployment projects in the field of advanced semiconductor technologies. The goal is to strengthen European capabilities in the most critical technologies while consolidating the industrial sovereignty of both France and the European Union.

Themes aligned with ASTEERICS’ activities
The technological scope covers the entire integrated circuit value chain. Priority areas include:

chips and accelerators for artificial intelligence;
chiplets, heterogeneous integration, and advanced packaging;
integrated photonic devices;
next-generation sensors for automation;
power electronics and technologies aimed at reducing energy consumption;
secure communications;
manufacturing, metrology, and testing equipment;
materials, substrates, chemical inputs, and advanced design tools (EDA).

These priorities directly address the scientific and industrial objectives driving the ASTEERICS project.
